It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of my dear friend, Bobby Gene Pietranton. To my family, he was Uncle Bobby, Bobford a beloved mainstay whose absence leaves a void impossible to fill.
For nearly twenty years, we were inseparable. Our days were woven together by a ritual of phone calls, three or four times daily. The first was for our shared games of Wordle and Springsteen Heardle. The next would plan our evening television, and the third would commence the show itself, with subsequent calls reserved for passionate reviews. Bobby was family. He graced every birthday and holiday, a cherished fixture at our Passover table each year.
Bobby was a true mensch generous, kind, and deeply loved. Our bond was never out of obligation, but pure affection. He was a devoted uncle to Brandon and Stephanie, and his recent creative partnership with Brandon filled me with immense pride.
Finally, Bobby would have liked the Steelers to win one more Super Bowl, for Charlie Brown to finally kick that football, and for revivals of Homicide and The Wire . We’ll forever save a seat for him, and for Marty Scorsese, at our next Passover dinner.
