Drunken Driver Faces Felony Charges After Fatal Uptown Dallas That Claim Life Of Emma Hackney
A serious incident in Uptown Dallas has left one person dead and two others injured, following an alleged drunken driving crash. Preston Petty, 26, is accused of causing the devastating accident while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Petty was driving a 2025 Tesla when he lost control on Cedar Springs Road early Sunday evening. Witnesses reported that he was speeding southbound and took a curve too fast, hitting several trees, a median, and becoming airborne before colliding with a parked Porsche at Turtle Creek Boulevard.
The crash resulted in the death of Emma Hackney, 29, the Porsche’s driver. A passenger in her vehicle was critically injured, along with Petty’s mother, who was in the Tesla at the time. The impact flipped the Porsche, with the Tesla landing on top of it.
Petty reportedly told officers that the crash occurred because his mother was trying to grab his phone, which he had in his hand while driving. An officer noted smelling alcohol on Petty, though he denied being intoxicated and mentioned he was heading home to drink wine.
