Shannon Norgate, A Notorious Child Abuser Dies After Alleged Prison Assault
Shannon Daniel Norgate, a convicted child sex offender, has died in hospital following an alleged violent assault by fellow prisoners at a Queensland jail. The 26-year-old passed away at Hervey Bay Hospital on Monday, days after an incident at the Maryborough Correctional Centre on November 26.
Norgate was jailed in March 2020 for five child offences, including a disturbing case where he posed as a security guard. In this instance, he took three children into toilet blocks at a Gladstone shopping centre and a school. The court heard he sexually abused a four-year-old boy in a school toilet, an act witnessed by a five-year-old.

His criminal history also included contravening offender prohibition orders and failing to comply with reporting conditions as a registered sex offender.
Following the alleged altercation with two other inmates, Norgate was found unresponsive in his cell. He was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The Queensland Police Service has launched a multi-unit investigation, involving the Corrective Services Investigation Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit, into the circumstances surrounding his death. The investigation remains ongoing.
